Yarn: Yarntini Mimosa, 1 skein
Pattern: My generic 56 stitch top-down sock with slip stitch heel
Needles: US # 1 / 32” Addi Turbos for Magic Loop

I started these socks on June 10 and made decent progress during the first month. I got all the way to the heel of the second sock before I came to a screeching halt. After a two-month hiatus, I finally finished them last weekend.  And I just realized that they’ll match quite well with my Wicked sweater!

And look what I got from The Loopy Ewe!

Yup, sheep sock blockers! For the record, I don’t actually block my socks. I thought it would be neat to try using them for photography purposes only, and they definitely work well that way! I can see that blockers would be particularly helpful in photographing socks with actual designs (instead of the plain stockinette I always do). I don’t really need them, but I fell for the cute sheep!

Sweaters!

September 7th, 2007 by caitlyn

It’s been quite awhile since I attempted to knit a sweater. The last two I finished were in late 2005 and early 2006, and in my book they were not very successful projects. One didn’t fit well because I was simply careless about gauge, and I’ve never even worn it out. The other seemed okay at the time, but I didn’t wear it at all last year because the yarn felt too itchy around my neck and the sweater seemed to have “shrunk” from its post-blocking size, making the length too short for my taste.  For both projects, I struggled greatly with sewing in the sleeves.  After those experiences, I felt like I needed a time-out from sweaters (and sweater seaming in particular).

I guess the break was long enough, because when my knitting mojo returned recently, I was totally interested in sweaters.  Go figure, huh? The first one I cast on for last month was Wicked by Zephyr Style.  I was inspired after seeing Jillian’s gorgeous version earlier in the year. And there is no seaming because it’s knit in the round from the top down! I managed to score the Artyarns Supermerino at a super duper price through someone’s destashing, which is always a plus!

I took the above photo a couple weeks ago, and admittedly Wicked still looks exactly the same because I’ve been consumed with the other sweater on the needles.

Yup, it’s the Central Park Hoodie from the Fall 2006 KnitScene. I have got to be at least a year behind the crowd on this one. I am using Cascade 220, and I chose the color after seeing two gorgeous ones here and here. I am knitting the pieces separately as written in the pattern, and my goal is to take a seaming class to learn how to do it properly. We’ll see how that goes.  I have actually finished the back and am working on the left front, but I still have a looooong way to go.  So it will probably be awhile before I have another FO to show!

Number 4 is On The Way

One would think that after knitting three full-sized Clapotis — for my mom, my aunt, and myself — I would be sick of the pattern by now. Apparently not, because Number 4 is in the works.

I decided to knit a few Christmas presents this year, and the scarf-sized Clapotis will be for my sister (hopefully she’s too busy to keep up with my blog right now!).  I am using the Black Purl colorway of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted.  If I had to name my three favorite worsted yarns, this would definitely make the list.  I think I’m going to have a difficult time parting with this Clapotis, so maybe I’ll have to knit another one for myself!

Cabled Newsboy Cap

Pattern: Headline News Cabled Newsboy Cap from Stitch ‘N Bitch Nation
Yarn: Blue Sky Worsted Hand Dyes, Color 2003 Ecru, 2 skeins
Needles: Clover #8/16″, Clover #8/24″, Clover #10.5/16″, Brittany #10.5 DPNs
Thoughts: This was my first project in August, and unfortunately I feel pretty “meh” about it. Clearly I chose the wrong color yarn for myself; I was going for neutral so that the hat would match a variety of clothing, but didn’t consider that ecru doesn’t go so well with my skin tone. The yarn knits up thick and soft, but it was splitty so I wouldn’t use it again.  I found the decrease instructions rather confusing.  In the absence of pattern errata or clarification on the SnB website, I ended up emailing Wendy completely out of the blue to ask for help because she had knit the hat before. She didn’t know me from the next knitter, nor had I ever even commented on her blog previously, but she still kindly responded super quickly with detailed instructions. Wasn’t that nice?? All in all, this is not one of my favorite projects, but I’m glad I finished something! Yay!  Moving on now to the other projects on my needles…
